The non-profit Old Salt Fishing Foundation, established in 1971, holds an array of fishing tournaments throughout the year. They host contests for anglers of every level.
Orange & Blue Tarpon Tournament
The 6th annual event takes place at the Madeira Beach Marina. Tarpon, of course, are among the royalty of the saltwater-sportfishing world—huge, silver-scaled, high-leaping—and a thrill to battle. The Orange & Blue Tournament gets underway at 7 PM on Thursday, June 14th with the check-in process and an angler party complete with local food, beer, and a raffle. The fishing tournament starts at 5:30 AM on Saturday, June 16th.
Old Salt Ladies Fishing Tournament
Female anglers from across the Sunshine State will gather for the 30th Annual Old Salt Ladies Fishing Tournament, held at The Club – Treasure Island on Thursday, June 21st (for the Captain’s Party) and Saturday, June 23rd (for the fishing). The long-running event raises funds for the Celma Mastry Ovarian Cancer Foundation, so you’ll be casting for a good cause. Red and gag groupers, snappers, kingfish, sea trout, flounder, sheepshead, and (for photo releases) redfish and snook are among the high-prized catches in this tournament.
Summer Seawall Tournament
The summer edition of the Old Salt Seawall Tournament is scheduled for Tuesday, July 10th at Gators on the Pass in Treasure Island. This popular all-ages tourney has an entry fee of only $5 and is a summer highlight for locals
Old Salt LOOP Billfish Tournament
The LOOP all-release billfish tournament takes place at the Madeira Beach Municipal Marina from Tuesday, August 14th through Saturday, August 18th for its 47th running. This billfish tournament rewards the best catches of the deep blue: blue marlin, white marlin, and sailfish. Optional species include tuna, dolphinfish, wahoo, and swordfish.
